The Alpine Chalet has the added benefit of FREE on-site parking for their guests. Parking facilities are almost non-existent in Perisher and extremely scarce at Smiggin Holes. The Alpine Chalet and Heidi’s Chalet Apartments – is the only accommodation that makes this free facility available to their guests.
Driving to The Alpine Chalet in Smiggin Holes is an easy 5 – 6 hour drive from Sydney via Canberra and Cooma and about a 7-hour drive from Melbourne. More than half the distance is on freeway standard or dual carriage roads. From Jindabyne, it is just over 30kms via Kosciusko Road to Smiggin Holes and in good weather takes approximately a half hour.
In winter, motorists are legally required to carry properly fitting chains in all vehicles excluding 4WD’s in all “snow-ice” risk sections within the National Park. If chains are to be used, you will be advised by signs and park officials. All cars must pay park fees upon entry to the National Park. Passes can be obtained at the entry gates to the National Park.
